Christmas

Christmas is just days away and I still have things to do. My family is coming to have Christmas this weekend. I need to do some major cleaning. I have most of my shopping done, but then there is food to buy and presents to wrap. I like Christmas.

Peru Trip

I am back from Peru. It was a wonderful journey full of experiences I thouroughly enjoyed. My sister and I fly into Lima, Peru on July 3, 2007. We were met by friends there who took us to our hotel. The next morning we met their family and went by bus to Huacho, two hours north of Lima, to check on their house there. We ate dinner near the beach and I had my first Cervicchi. That evening we took the bus back to Lima, picked up our bags, and headed to the airport. Mark and Romy's family, Judith and I fly to Iquitos at midnight. Their were 13 of us counting the baby. Romy's sister, her husband and three children were visiting from Japan. In Iquitos we took our ride on the Amazon River where we visitied an Indian tribe. That was one of the highlights of the trip. We were there three days. One evening we went by boat out to a floating restaurant on the Amazon and had dinner. Transportation there was via Moto-Taxi, motorcycle, bike, or by foot. Maybe saw 5 cars in the whole city. That is because you have to fly in or go by boat on the Amazon River.
Judith and I wanted to fly from Iquitos to Trujillo, but as we know now, that is impossible. Everyone has to fly to Lima to get anywhere. So we all fly back to Lima. Judith and I found that the next flight to Trujillo was 10 hours later. We decided to take a bus rather than wait that long. It was an interesting look at the country side. We rode on the Pan American highway which was a widing road along the Pacific Ocean. To the left was ocean and to the right was desert with lots of high sand hills.
In Trujillo we were met by my friend Raquel Hanson's sisters; Ruby and Ingrid. We met the family and settled right in. They made us feel right at home. The first night there we all took a walk to the central plaza downtown. It was apparently safe because we walked around several other nights to shop. One day the women and kids took a cab to the beach at Huanchaco. We had a relaxing day there. I will need to post more later.

Iquitos, Peru

I'm here in Iquitos, Peru neat Combia-Brazil. Yesterday we took a boat down the Amazon River and visited an Indian tribe called Bora Bora. They sang and danced for us. It was fantastic. The only way to get to Iquitos is to fly or by boat down the Amazon. We may go for a swim in the river tonight. We visited the market this morining. I had a chicken sandwich and a fruit smoothie. Having a great time!! Will post pics when I get home.

I left for Peru this morning. We are staying in Panama City tonight. We should be there tomorrow.

Skipping the Country

I am getting the heck out of Dodge. At least for 3 weeks. I'm going to find some cool weather in Peru. Lima has a high of 50 degrees today. My sister Judith, from California, is going with me. We will leave Lima on July 14 to fly to the Amazon on the Peru/Brazil border. This has been on my list of things to do for a long time. Still plan to go down the Amazon in Brazil one day tho. We also plan to go to Cusco, Macchu Picchu, Puno, Lake Titicaca, Arequipa, Colca Canyon and the Nazca Lines. We are going from the Amazon to Trujillo where we will spend a few days with the Santiago Vasquez family. We are really looking forward to visiting with them. My friend from school took her son who just graduated from high school to London for a week. She said she wouldn't think of going to Peru. She was going to go to a 'safe' country. Would you believe I have to check in an extra hour early now because of all the activity in her 'safe' country?
